Increased resistance to compression, durability over time, possibility of being moulded according to requirements and needs, ease of application through the casting process, hardness, high resistance to mechanical shocks and wear; here are just a few of the properties that define and recommend the so-called concrete, one of the most used materials for constructions of any type.

The recipe for concrete is simple: cement, water, aggregates (sand and gravel), and in some cases, other extras such as additives. Following some chemical reactions, the homogeneous mixture obtained by dosing an optimal amount of the mentioned elements strengthens, thus resulting the end material. Regarding its use, depending on the nature of the construction and the particular conditions it has to bear (heavy traffic for the infrastructure elements, for example), among the most important and used materials of this kind there are several types of concrete, such as: industrial concrete, road concrete and trowelled concrete.


Concrete is a material with an increased water absorption capacity, this is why when raising or constructing of certain structures where the low degree of impermeability of the material makes the difference between the quality and durability of the work, a waterproofing concrete is essential to be used.

This waterproofing concrete is a special material that excels under the action of water, successfully preventing infiltrations and ensuring an increased waterproofing feature to the construction. The name of waterproofing concrete comes from special additives with waterproofing properties which are used during the preparation of the material.

Together with the other ingredients, additives are also added to permanently waterproof the entire concrete mass, therefore creating a barrier that prevents the passage of water. In order to obtain a high quality waterproofing concrete, the indications imposed by the manufacturer on optimal dosing of additives must be observed, depending on the quantity of the end material.

Among the main features of this type of waterproofing concrete, we first mention the significant properties of reducing water absorption, the increased degree of impermeability and mechanical resistance, the resistance to chlorides and most importantly, the resistance over time. The waterproofing concrete is used for constructions, for obtaining the concrete that forms different structures and constructions: from terraces and floors, to foundations, reservoirs, dams, tunnels, canals and other constructions prone to water infiltration.

When talking about road concrete, we refer to the type of concrete especially designed to be used in infrastructure: building on a project basis, rehabilitation or modernization. This type of concrete is used as road structures for: roads and highways, access roads or parking lots of major stores, institutions, etc., in short, any surface where 4-wheel vehicles can go.


The basic materials that form this road concrete are basically the ones used for the preparation of the classic concrete (cement, aggregate and water), with the only difference that their composition can also include pit processed products, plasticizers and other additives, respectively materials such as steel fibers, concrete steel and many more. Determining the final composition and optimal dosing depend on the type of the road construction and most importantly, after estimating the level of traffic it must withstand.


Road concretes are rigid materials that make up the 2 layers specific to any construction of this type: the resistance layer (lower) and the wear layer (upper). In view of their applicability (heavy and heavy load traffic), these road concretes have essential features: resistance to wear and to extreme weather phenomena, safety in operation by providing optimal traffic conditions even during rain, excellent behavior at contact with fuels or lubricants and resistance to repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
