THE GREEN TERRACE ROOF
A best way to return to nature the pieces of land that were taken away from it when constructing blocks of flats, houses or other buildings, the installing of a green roof is an ecological way to dress up that part of the building, a solution for anyone who wants to protect the environment by reducing pollution and the greenhouse effect.
The idea of a green roof in Romania
While for most of us, the idea of a green roof is a new concept, a method recently launched on the foreign market, more precisely in other European countries, has been implemented for several decades now. In Germany, 10% of buildings, regardless of their nature, have a green roof installed, while in Switzerland, the laws stipulate that any roof whose surface exceeds 500 square meters must be equipped with this type of system. In Romania, the lack of information about this type of solution and the very small number of companies that offer such services make the idea of a green roof to remain just an idea, not many buildings or residential spaces having the possibility to have such a roof installed. For many projects and works for the green Bucharest terrace the experience always has the first and last word: Milucon.
WHAT IS A GREEN ROOF
Simply put, a green terrace roof is a roof that is covered either totally or partially with vegetation: grass, lichens, flowers, green plants or small shrubs that thrive naturally or require low maintenance.
The structure of such a system consists of several well defined layers that can be mounted both on plane and tilted roofs. The anti root membrane is a very important part in this system as it forms a barrier that doesn’t allow roots to pass through, thus preventing them from penetrating into the other layers (especially into the waterproofing one) and therefore impacting the entire green roof.
The drainage system is equally important. Most often looking like an egg carton, it retains the water in the specific compartments in order to hydrate the soil and redirecting the surplus of pluvial water into the drains.
THE ADVANTAGES OF A GREEN ROOF
Besides the decorative effect that a green roof has on a house and implicitly on the entire area, together with the positive effects it has on the environment, the latter presents advantages on a personal level too.
Thanks to its thermal insulation properties, a green roof is able to maintain a constant and pleasant temperature inside the building, regardless of the season. At the same time it soundproofs the rooms, significantly reducing the level of noise from the outside. It is more durable than other materials and it protects the roof itself efficiently. Moreover, because plants absorb a considerable amount of the water resulted from heavy rains, the risk of a flood due to the overworking of the rainwater or the sewerage systems is eliminated from the start.
If you want to enjoy all the benefits of a green roof and thus realising the importance of such a system, Milucon provides you with all-inclusive installing services, everything from supplying the soil, to the actual planting of the desired vegetation; our company is one of the few in our country which, together with other green terrace projects in Bucharest, provides and offers the possibility of the most efficient services in this field.
