SAFETY, QUALITY AND CONFORT IN TERRACE WATERPROOFING
Milucon performs terrace waterproofing depending on the construction type – if it’s on surface or underground. By strictly adhering to basic rules in the implementation of this type of work, through our staff’s professionalism and high qualification and with the help of high quality materials, Milucon guarantees the durability and effectiveness of terrace waterproofing works.
Well-protected terraces
Terraces are exposed to bad weather for long periods of time. The necessary solutions must be complete and sustainable. Quality criteria for a terrace waterproofing work implies water impermeability, resistance to negative temperatures, increased resistance to environmental agents and stability at positive temperatures.

MILUCON PERFORMS PROFESSIONAL TERRACE WATERPROOFING
We are specialists in terrace waterproofing, we are able to prevent or stop water infiltrations in the construction structure for very long periods of time, which is also due to the specific materials we use that guarantee a high resistance to environmental factors and extreme temperatures.
WATERPROOFING TYPESWalk-on and non-walk-on terraces
There are two important types of waterproofing systems: for walk-on terraces or for non-walk-on terraces; depending on each system, the material to be applied is chosen and PVC, bitumen membranes or polyurethane resins are recommended.
Each of these types requires a different approach in terms of application and it is important to know that the materials used are also of several types: rigid, elastic and liquid. Each of them requires compliance with its manufacturing instructions in order to prevent the work being jeopardized by failure to comply with certain essential conditions.
WATERPROOFING FOR WALK-ON TERRACESHigh performance sealing systems
Thanks to our engineering teams’ complex work, a perfect waterproofing of any building with a ceiling or a walk-on terrace is obtained. We provide works that include water optimal drainage by installing dedicated drainage systems. Generally, terrace waterproofing works are done in autumn, as it is important that materials are not exposed to low or high temperatures.
The procedure for covering terraces with bituminous membranes is a durable solution made by applying a mono or double-layer membrane through fire. Bituminous membranes prevent water infiltration in building elements and they protect against exposure to mold and dampness and against any damage.
RESTORATION AND REPAIR OF TERRACE WATERPROOFING
In theory, waterproofing for walk-on terraces needs to be carried out from the very beginning, once the construction has been completed to prevent possible infiltrations. Moreover, in the case of restoring or repairing of the previous waterproofing, the Milucon teams remove the upper layer to apply a new layer.
EVALUATION AND CORRECTIVE SOLUTIONS
We establish the degree of the waterproofing damage caused by stripping and, depending on the degree of infiltration, we carry out specific measures to remedy the situation. However, it is difficult to determine the affected areas, and in order to achieve a high quality work, we need to examine the entire roof surface.
The difficulty of restoring waterproofing of walk-on terraces differs from one building to another, and for this we prefer to conduct on-site examinations to create a feasible and concrete plan as soon as possible.
Milucon’s professionalism and experience is the guarantee of high-performance work to meet any expectation of our long-term customers.
WATERPROOFING FOR NON-WALK-ON TERRACESBuilding protection against nature
Waterproofing plays an essential role in protecting buildings against natural elements, water infiltrations in buildings and terrace consolidating against deterioration. Milucon engineers manage to offer waterproofing work to the highest standards.
Effective methods for waterproofing non-walk-on terraces
Three elements define a properly accomplished waterproofing work. The technical solution must provide the most effective isolation method; the engineering teams need to be professional and experienced in the field, while the equipment and the materials used must be superior. Once the three criteria have been met, the waterproofing works for non-walk-on terraces allow a perfect waterproofing of buildings for achieving a greater resistance and durability.
WORKING PROCEDURES
According to the material resistance theory, the warranty period for these works is of 20 years, during which the waterproofing must resist without requiring any repairs. Before starting work, the surface on which the material is to be applied must be perfectly smooth, free of bumps and gaps so that it maintains the adherence of the material.
According to each project, for a more efficient insulation, apply multiple layers for thermo-insulation and waterproofing, membranes and vapor barriers, diffusion layers, decompression and compensation, concrete and other floors designed to support the technical solution.
WATERPROOFING MATERIALS
Regarding the materials used for terrace waterproofing, the bitumen membrane is recommended for its advantages. A work of waterproofing non-walk-on terraces requires no further repairs. Resistance to high or low temperatures, to temperature differences between indoors and outdoors, to diverse environmental factors are the main advantages of the bitumen membrane. Polyester or glass fiberglass reinforced bituminous membranes, sanded, polyester or slate (slats), polymeric polymers or elasto plastomers are used.
There are cases where the protection of waterproofing and thermal insulation can be done with gravel of different sizes so that water can drain. Below the gravel a geotextile foil is applied to prevent the clogging of drain gullies with the gravel from the terrace. Thermo-insulation of the well light slab (when available) is recommended to prevent any thermal bridges.
REVERSED TERRACES
In the case of reversed terraces, whose thermal insulation is installed above the waterproofing membrane, the duration of the insulation system is prolonged through an increased protection against extreme temperatures, mechanical impact and ultraviolet exposure. Thus the risk of condensation between the different layers of the roof is eliminated and therefore the extruded polystyrene thermo-insulating boards can last for several decades.
